Stop Press: Teachers Go Back to School

Learning more than a language – critical thinking activities for summer courses

Yes, as incredible as it may sound, even teachers sometimes have to go back to class.

It was that on Saturday 27th October 2018 that a select number of teachers, along with some of the office staff, went to the ENGLISHUK south west @EUKSW conference at @MillfieldMELHC School in Somerset; they did indeed go back to school.

Sitting on the other side of the school bench for a change gave the teachers a chance to brush up on their skills and further their knowledge of pronunciation, “differentiation”, “process-oriented syllabi”, “interaction skills” and much much more.

But not only were the teachers granted the honour of listening to world leaders in the field of EFL, such as the venerable Adrian Underhill, they also received an opportunity to hear from our very own Alicja Szyszkowiak, the Director of Studies of Channel School @CountryCousinsIlfracombe.

Alicja treated a large audience from a number of schools to a seminar on “critical thinking activities for summer courses”. She provided an insight into developments at our school in Ilfracombe, which is leading the way in the use of modern media in the classroom.

Many participants were impressed by the application of blended learning. Blended learning is a combination of online resources, IT equipment and task-based activities.

It is no exaggeration to say that Country Cousins Ltd is showing the industry the way forward, the path to the future of EFL summer courses.
